I’m reading a lot of Tweets and blogs today about people saying “Good riddance!” to 2009. 2009 sucked very much for very many people. There were big personal tragedies and losses, and the economy was terrible, and I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW.
But I have to admit that I am feeling kind of… attached to 2009. This is the year that I finally found health. I finally got fit, and finally lost the weight that has plagued me for most of my adult life.
I am just the teeniest bit afraid of 2010, and part of me is not READY to move on. What if 2010 is the year of my downfall? I know, I know, I’m not supposed to think like that. But for me, 2009 was kind of a miracle and part of me would not be surprised if 2010 was sort of back to business as usual.
I feel like I’m the only person out there who isn’t completely ready to step into a new year.
I hope that my New Years’ Eve will help me make this transition gracefully. First I’m going to lead the Very Last WW meeting of the year (filling for another leader) at my center. Then, in the evening I’m going to a lovely, cozy soup party hosted by a dear friend. Then I’m going to meditate in the New Year at the meditation center where I haven’t been in way too long. Hopefully, by the time the clock strikes, I’ll be ready for a new year.

I am feeling like 2009 was my great start and now I have 2010 to kick it into high gear! I learned a lot in 2009 that I will continue to build on! SO for me it is not about letting go but continuing and getting stronger and healthier or just getting “more”
Happy New Year Foodie!

It was a productive year for me, too–2010 is going to be interesting–what do we do with what we’ve earned in 2009?
I think 2009, despite its gnarly parts (and there were gnarly parts) can never beat my 2007 in craptitude, so I feel like 2010’s going to be at the very least okay, if not very good.
I highly advise picking the crappiest year of your life and saying, “Well, 2010 can’t be worse than THAT.” 🙂
Also–you have this blog! We won’t LET you have a crappy 2010 wrt your health/fitness. I’ve vowed to lose 10 pounds and increase my running fitness, thanks to you.

I know a lot of people that are hating 2009, but it was a pretty awesome year for me. I think 2010 will be good too, so I’m looking forward to it. But at the same time I’m a little scared. Anything can be scary if you don’t know what is going to happen, and that’s exactly what a new year brings!

2010 will be even better than 2009 – embrace the journey!
Have a happy New Years!
Healthy food and exercise in 2010!

Yeah, I don’t have the same loathing for 2009 that I am seeing other people express. It was good. I jumped on the Social Network wave and met so many wonderful people (you! you!). So . . . . I understand what you are saying. We will see.
Have a GREAT soup party. Happy 2010!

Sounds like a wonderful transition to the New Year.
Re the fear, I don’t know any remedy other than to move forward and trust. *I* think you’re going to have a terrific year. Does that help?

2009 (despite its rough start, with my mom having heart surgery) was a fantastic year for me, too! I didn’t reach my goal weight, but I did end the year 5 pounds lighter…which for me is pretty huge! You know, 2008 for me was like 2009 was for you. (I didn’t feel ready for 2009 when everyone started talking new year’s resolutions at the end of 2008, either.) Anyhow, I predict that you’re going to have an even better year in 2010!
I like your New Year’s Eve plans! We’ll be celebrating at home with the kiddos; we’ve always been pretty quiet on New Year’s Eve. I’d better get on over to Bev Mo and pick up some more of that sugar-free margarita mix, though! 😉

I have been reading those and mulling em as well.
for me I never really wish GOOD RIDDANCE to a year (and believe me I have had some DOOOOZIES) as whatever has transpired has conspired to make me who I am—and I cant and wouldnt change that
that said, here’s hoping all of our 2010s are happy healthy and amazing.
