I went back to my podiatrist today. The great news is that I get to put that damn cast boot in the closet! The other great news is that he says no surgery for now. The medium news is that I have to trade the boot for a brace that I must wear to do any exercise. I went out and bought it but it does not look very comfy so I admit I have not worn it yet. I will do so tomorrow morning when I go to see the trainer.
This is the longest I have gone without exercise since January. I worked out hard about twice in these past two weeks. I wanted to work out while I was on vacation last week, but it just did not happen, other than a long walk with my friends. I did have good intentions but with so many people to visit with in such a short time, I just mostly ended up sitting around and talking with dear friends and also my daughter, who flew in to spend her 19th birthday with me/us. It was truly blissful, lovely, wonderful, etc. We had a fabulous celebratory meal at the one and only Moosewood restaurant.
The upshot of it is that I gained a few pounds. I am not panicking, because it isn’t any more than I’ve gained on other “off” weeks I’ve had this year. But it’s bad timing because I am going to my WW leader training in two days. I sure as heck hope they will not weigh us, but they probably will. Aghh..
If anything was “worth it,” this was. But I really notice the big difference that these few pounds makes. I notice how it feels to not exercise in so long. (not good) Today I went to Sports Authority to buy my ankle brace and while I was there, I also bought a new fitness ball, a pair of 8 lb weights, and two new exercise DVDs: something called “Yoga for Inflexible People” (that’s me!!) and an on-sale Biggest Loser exercise DVD. I am very very anxious to get back to it.
Tomorrow morning!

Yeay!!! That’s great news! It sounds like you had a wonderful trip and enjoyed it to the fullest. Sure, the timing sucks with the leader training, but bouncing back from “off” weeks and injuries is a valuable skill that you will be able to share with your people. (Much more authentically when you’ve got first-hand experience, too. π )

Foodie, my dear friend, please wear your uncomfortable brace. If the doctor says to wear it, wear it, otherwise the next time you go for a visit he might say surgery, right? So be good to your ankle. You DON’T want to go through the hassle of surgery.
(I still have my chair in my trunk. Forgot about it.)
If they weigh you, you can explain that all of your work has paid off in that you didn’t work out for a week and ate a little more extravagantly than normal and still only gained a few pounds and you are going to take care of that ASAP. You are even in a better position to be a leader because you can be an example of real life. You were on vacation and while that isn’t supposed to be a vacation from exercise and good eating it happens sometimes, but you jump right back in, brace and all, and keep on going. You are setting the example that it DOESN’T throw you into a spiral that just keeps you going in the wrong direction, you show you can get right back on track!
You go Foodie!

I am looking forward to hearing about ww training (hopefully you can talk about it– if it’s not like jury duty or corporate spy work). I am toying with the idea of joining WW to lose the last of my 10%. I have this suspicious fear that I might mess with my current success and end up gaining weight, but it seems like you were somewhat unsure as well and are now a convert.

Larkspur, this made me laugh. Like jury duty or corporate spy work! LOL! Yes, I will share as much as I am able. It’s true, I was somewhat unsure/ambivalent about WW when I re-joined this year – I had joined and not had success so many times in the past, but I found a great leader and it inspired me to want to be one.

Congratulations on getting the boot off. Injuries are a big bummer. I bet you will get used to the brace pretty quickly. Good luck with your ww leader meeting and also with getting into your new exercise routine.
