I’ve been struggling with food, body, love, hate, disgust, ecstasy, for as long as I can remember.
In January of 2009, I experienced a wake-up call (which prompted the beginning of this blog) in which I came very close (and maybe fell into) a diagnosis of diabetes. I will be turning 50 this year and this is one thing I do NOT want for my birthday. For the first time in my life I feel truly motivated to exercise and lose weight. This blog is about my journey along the way. I appreciate all the company and conversation you can offer.
UPDATE: I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes on April 1, 2009. The journey continues.
UPDATE: As of December 2009, I managed to lose 33 lbs, run my first, second and third 5k races, join the staff of Weight Watchers first as a receptionist then a leader, and it goes on. I turned fifty the healthiest I have ever been. I’m feeling great, and so much of it has to do with the support and encouragement I received via this blog. The journey continues, indeed.
UPDATE: January 2011! I’m two years in now. I completed my first half marathon in December (viva Las Vegas!). Onward!

Hi Foodie McBody,
This is a great idea for a blog. I think body issues and food are simply part and parcel of being a female in our culture, sadly.
Which writer said something like (prepare for bad paraphrasing here) if you live past the age of five you have enough material to become a novelist? That feels like a good analogy to growing up female–there’s enough material there for a lifetime of good blogging about food, body, and self-esteem.
One of my favorite books that explores these ideas is Anne Katherine’s Anatomy of a Food Addiction.

Me, too! That’s why I started my blog! I’m glad I found your site. I’m down almost 30lbs since I was diagnosed 3 months ago and I have 30 more to go to hit BMI (which I think is a bit unreasonable). Best of luck…keep going!

I think you have inspired me to start a diet blog. I used to do this in writing when I was on WW years ago. Even if its for no one but me it may be a good idea. Tx.

Ooh, I would love to read your diet blog. I am finding that I am more optimistic than ever that “this time” it could be a long lasting thing, because for the first time, I’m really being honest about all of it. The writing REALLY helps. Yeah, start one, and I’ll put you on my blogroll! (if you want that)

Hey Foodie,
Thanks so much for your nice comments on my blog and for adding me to your blogroll! I added you to mine as well! Can’t wait to read more!
Have a great day!

Hi Foodie McBody!
I couldn’t help but respond after reading your comment on MizFit today. I’m sorry you’re in the club no one wants to join, but with folks like Tom Rooney, we’re in good company. 🙂 I’m looking forward to following your blog & your journey. I was diagnosed in June of last year (on my wedding anniversary, of all times!). While it wasn’t a total surprise, it sure was a wake-up call to action.
Hang in there, and it sounds like you’re doing the right things to achieve best management of it, even though it’s so very hard at times. It sure beats throwing in the towel, and is much better for bolstering one’s self-esteem. 🙂

Like the blog. I am restarting my journey to lose weight. Had great success last summer but slowling gained some/not all of it back. However, I must explore eating options this time instead of overpowering my bad diet with exercise. Keep on blogging the free world.

Hi I just found your blog and your story is similar to mine. My doctor told me I was pre-diabetic and that scared the crap out of me! I decided to lose the weight. Are you still diabetic? Or did that correct itself when you lost more weight?
April 9, 2010 at 3:16 am
It didn’t correct. I “turned” diabetic before I lost my weight, or I actually suspect I was probably already diabetic when I got my pre-D diagnosis. At any rate, it is now under good control, with a tiny amt of metformin, the weight loss and exercise. But it isn’t “gone.”

Hmm, interesting. Personally, I think Queen L is GORGEOUS and I have no problem imagining ANYone being attracted to her. Also, I am not sure she is unhealthy. I’d have to see her blood tests, blood pressure etc to make that assumptive leap. She appears fit to me. I wouldn’t assume she is unhealthy just by looking at her, and I CERTAINLY wouldn’t assume she is unworthy of attraction! In fact I find the idea (and also the nonmentioning of her size) pretty refreshing.

Hello,
Stumbled on your blog a while ago, and just have to say I LOVE IT. Thank you for your honest words and inspiration. I’ve just started my own weight loss journey and blog. I hope my blog is as much of an interesting read as your is!
